Landsmere Golf Club was the worst decision we made for our wedding. We chose the location because the room has high ceilings and large picture windows along one wall. We envisioned seeing the snow on the rolling hills out the window. When we booked the room for the day of the wedding, we were told that if they managed to rent the room out for the day before us, we might not be able to decorate until the day of the wedding. I thought this was a little odd, but I liked the room so much, I decided to risk it. So we rented the space and crossed our fingers that we'd be able to decorate the day before the ceremony. It ended up being fine, and we were able to come in early. I told the manager, whose name escapes me now, that we'd be there at 1pm, and we, and the caterer, arrived promptly at 1:00 to begin decorating. While we decorated, the manager stood in the corner staring at us and giving us death-glares the entire time. It was so unsettling, as if we were trespassing, and I felt it was extremely rude considering that we'd paid everything he'd asked and hadn't asked anything of him at all. While we were decorating, we discovered that the red plush chairs in the room, which I 'd liked so much because they matched my colors, were leaving red lint on everyone's clothing. Considering that everyone at the reception would be dressed formally, we saw this as a bit of a problem. When brought to the manager's attention he shrugged and said, "no one's complained before." I ended up having to go home and get my own vacuum cleaner and my dad vacuumed all of the chairs himself. We decorated the room until about 5:25, when the manager says, "um, we close at 5:30." We had open boxes everywhere, were in the middle of putting place cards on the tables, and we hadn't finished rolling all the silverware. We had five minutes to pack everything up and get out. We were told that the course would open again at 9am, which seemed like it might be a tight squeeze considering all the other things we had to do before the ceremony, but we arrived the next morning promptly at 9:00 to decorate. We did manage to get everything set up, under the watchful eyes of the manager who never once left his corner or stopped staring at us.Fast forward, the ceremony's over, we're at the reception hall, everything's going fine. But guess who's still standing in the corner, very conspicuously in jeans and a t-shirt while the rest of us are in formal wear? Mr. Manager. We watched us all like hawks for the entire reception, and very inappropriately came over to us and asked for the remainder of his money before I'd even tossed the bouquet. The price was extremely reasonable for this beautiful room, but our experience was so terrible that I wish in retrospect we'd chosen almost any other place. I recommend skipping over Landsmere when planning a wedding in northwest Iowa.
